Last month, I received a flier in the mail from one of my favorite shoe stores. Anyone who knows me knows I love shoes. And while I haven’t been wearing let alone buying shoes while living this quarantine life, another thing in the ad spoke to my very being: “Get a free bag with your purchase!” Within seconds, I was grabbing my wallet.

But then, I read the line under the picture of the cute smiling model with the bag I was determined to add to my collection: “Only valid for in-store purchases.” What?! How? All of their stores are closed thanks to COVID-19. They didn’t think this advertisement through.
We’ve all been guilty of making mistakes like these. In haste to get out our messaging, we write copy that covers the necessary information but fails to get notice and traction. If this is happening to you, your writing just might be ladened with language and tactics that cause your audiences to tune out.
The good news: Sonja Barisic of Sunflower Communications and Purple Inked are teaming with PRSA Hampton Roads to help. On June 17, 2020, at noon EST, we’ll address and lead discussion on he top 10 pitfalls you want to avoid in your writing to get the attention your messaging deserves.
This virtual Zoom session is open to all PRSA Hampton Roads members and nonmembers, but all attendees are asked to register. You will receive an email confirmation with the meeting number and password for the event.
